INCLUSION CRITERIA
An entry belongs in this division if and only if it names a cognitive operation that recurs across independent traditions, identified by convergence among specific instances rather than by top-down theorizing.
Required: All of the following:
- A structural move available to any mind facing a stated limit
- Instances in two or more traditions that developed independently of one another
- The same mechanism in each instance, not merely a shared shape, name, word, or count
Not sufficient: A method attested in a single tradition, however general it sounds (that belongs in Specific). A resemblance across traditions with no transferring mechanism — a shared word, number, or diagram is not convergence. A named operation whose cited instances all descend from one source.
Boundary: The instances live in Specific, indexed by the tradition that produced them; the operation they share lives here. An entry here must name what transfers between its instances — what the practice of one predicts about another — and not only that they resemble each other.
