INCLUSION CRITERIA
An entry belongs in this division if and only if it is a method with an identifiable tradition of origin.
Required: Both of the following:
- The collection's root criteria: a procedure, a mechanism, and stated limitations
- An attributable lineage — who developed it, where, and under what constraints
Not sufficient: A cognitive operation abstracted from several traditions (that belongs in General). A method whose origin cannot be attributed to a tradition.
Boundary: Each tradition folder states its own geographic and temporal bounds, and they are not commensurable: Soviet is a state and closes in 1991, Russian Imperial is the state before it and divides from it on institution rather than geography, Chinese and Indian are textual lineages running millennia, Slavic is an ethnographic record with no single closing date, and Western is bounded far more narrowly than its label because the label alone would exclude nothing. Read a tradition's criteria before placing an entry in it. The tradition folders index provenance and nothing else. Placement under Soviet or Japanese records where a method was developed, not that its mechanism is Soviet or Japanese. Convergent instances stay here under their own traditions; what they share is named in General. The domain folders beneath each tradition are that tradition's own divisions of its work and do not align across traditions.
