Assumption Busting
Origin. Same family as Assumption Reversal; distinguished by adding a validity test.
Mechanism. Surfaces assumptions, then classifies each as necessarily true, contingently true, or false-but-unexamined, and attacks only the third class. Where Assumption Reversal negates indiscriminately, this filters first.
Procedure. List assumptions. For each: what makes it true, who enforces it, when was it last tested, what would falsify it. Attack the ones with no enforcer and no test.
Applies to. Regulated and quasi-regulated domains, where the belief that a constraint is a regulation is frequently false.
Limitations. The classification into necessary and contingent is itself performed under the assumptions being examined.
